Davey Martinez was clear about the club’s plans for 20-year-old infielder Luis García after the Nationals called their infield prospect up to make his MLB debut last night when they learned that Starlin Castro suffered a broken right wrist.
García, who started the season ranked second on MLB Pipeline’s list of Washington’s top prospects, went 2 for 5 with a run scored in his first game above Double-A ball. Martinez said after the Nationals’ 15-3 win over the Baltimore Orioles that García will play now that he’s up.
“He’s going to play second base for us,” the manager explained.
