After his back injury lingered for too long, the Washington Nationals placed Ryan Zimmerman on the disabled list Saturday. However, given the performance of other players, they will be able to cope without the stalwart during his absence.
Zimmerman had been off to a sluggish start this season, with just a .217 batting average and .689 OPS. He was showing some signs of progress at the plate in recent games though. He had a .288 AVG, .883 OPS and four home runs in his last 17 games.
So the injury couldn’t have come at a worse time for the veteran first-baseman on a personal level.
