The Washington Nationals activated closer Jonathan Papelbon from the disabled list Monday and sent outfielder Michael Taylor to Triple-A Syracuse in a corresponding move.
Papelbon, 35, has been on the disabled list since June 13 with a right intercostal strain. He is 1-2 with a 3.28 ERA and 16 saves in 25 appearances this season.
Taylor, 25, is batting .225 with six home runs and 12 RBIs in 60 games (41 starts this season). He also has 10 doubles and 10 stolen bases.
