Max Scherzer gave up a run in the bottom of the first, on a no-doubter of a home run by Brandon Nimmo, then held the New York Mets off the board through six innings as Washington rallied to take a 3-1 lead.
Scherzer left the game after completing his six innings of work on the mound, and the Nationals’ bullpen gave up a run, but preserved the lead, in what ended up a 3-2 win.
Trea Turner took Jacob deGrom deep in the third inning for a two-run home run to left that put the Nationals up 2-1 after Nimmo’s homer, and Jose Lobaton drove in a run on an RBI single in the fifth to make it a 3-1 game.
