WASHINGTON -- Almost in relief and perhaps waiting for the pummeling he knew was coming, Michael A. Taylor stood at second base with his back to the plate. He had just swatted a double into center field that bounced off the wall and allowed Juan Soto to score the winning run for a walk-off 2-1 Nationals victory on Tuesday night.
Taylor's double was the result of an eight-pitch at-bat and a huge hit for a player who had been struggling at the plate through the start of the season.
Washington has now won the first two games of this series and will try to complete a three-game sweep against San Diego on Wednesday.
