Stephen Strasburg and Nationals reportedly agree on "significant" seven-year extension

Washington Post writer Chelsea Janes was first with the report tonight that the Washington Nationals and Stephen Strasburg have agreed to a long-term (seven-year) extension that will keep the '09 No.1 overall pick in D.C. for the foreseeable future.

Mike Rizzo talked this Spring about the possibility of locking 2009 No.1 overall pick Stephen Strasburg up long-term in an interview on 106.7 the FAN in D.C. The two sides have reportedly struck a deal.

Strasburg, 27, was set to become a free agent after this season, but according to a report tonight, the Nationals and the right-hander have agreed on what Washington Post writer Chelsea Janes wrote on Twitter is a "significant long-term extension" that will keep him in the nation's capital beyond this season.
