MIAMI -- The Nationals are on the verge of acquiring Phillies closer Jonathan Papelbon, sources confirmed to MLB.com on Tuesday. The first to report that a deal between the two clubs was agreed upon was FOXSports.com.
According to reports on Tuesday evening, the deal would have Papelbon assuming closing duties for Washington, with right-hander Drew Storen taking on a setup role. Papelbon's contract would also be extended through 2016 in Washington.
