WASHINGTON -- For the second time in his Nationals career, Max Scherzer completed an immaculate inning when he struck out the side on nine pitches in the sixth inning Tuesday night against the Rays.
Scherzer punched out Johnny Field, pinch-hitter Christian Arroyo and Daniel Robertson all swinging to pull off the feat for the second time in MLB this season. Kevin Gausman also had an immaculate inning against the Indians in the seventh inning on April 23.
It was the third immaculate inning in Nationals history, joining Scherzer's effort on May 14, 2017 vs.
