Ross to DL with right shoulder inflammation

WASHINGTON -- A day after showing a drop in velocity during his start against the Reds, Joe Ross has been placed on the disabled list with right shoulder inflammation, the Nationals announced Sunday.

Stephen Strasburg was activated from the disabled list in a corresponding move.

Ross allowed four runs in 5 1/3 innings Saturday as his fastball fell from the mid-90s to the high-80s, and manager Dusty Baker said afterward the team was looking into his health.

Ross' ERA has dropped from 2.37 to 3.49 over his past six starts, during which he has given up 21 earned runs in 34 2/3 innings.
