WASHINGTON -- Nationals third baseman Anthony Rendon exited Friday night's game against the Rockies in the seventh inning, an unusual substitution with the team trailing by a run.
No explanation was provided for why Rendon was removed from the game early, although Rendon did foul a ball off his foot in the fifth inning. He took a few moments to step out of the batter's box and walk around the plate, before he returned to the box and singled to center field.
However, Rendon stayed in the game following that incident, before he was pulled as right-hander Brandon Kintzler came to the mound.
