WASHINGTON -- The Nationals have added to their injury list, as they placed right-hander David Carpenter on the 15-day disabled list on Friday because of shoulder inflammation. To replace Carpenter, the Nats recalled left-hander Sammy Solis.
Carpenter hasn't pitched since July 5. Part of that time off was spent with his wife, Brittny, who gave birth to their first child, Darrell David Carpenter IV. Carpenter was a pleasant surprise for Washington. Since joining the team in the middle of June, he has allowed just one run in six innings with four strikeouts.
