NATIONAL HARBOR, Md. -- The Nationals missed out on one of their top targets for the second consecutive day Tuesday when the White Sox traded Chris Sale to the Red Sox in the first megadeal of the Winter Meetings.
Washington put its best offer forward and showed a willingness to change its strategy and trade top prospects to try to land Sale. But the club was not going to include Trea Turner in a trade, and Chicago preferred Boston's offer. Now, the Nats must decide how to move forward after losing out on Sale and Mark Melancon, who signed with the Giants on Monday.
