Nats erase Giants' threat, turn first triple play

SAN FRANCISCO -- With the bases loaded and nobody out in the eighth inning, the Nationals were hoping to get out of the inning and protect a three-run lead. They did so by pulling off the first triple play in Nationals (2005-present) history.

Brandon Crawford lined out to Ryan Zimmerman, who stepped on first base for the second out and threw to third base to catch Denard Span too far up the line to end the inning.

The triple play came after a rare triple switch by manager Dusty Baker, who brought in left-hander Sammy Solis, Zimmerman and shortstop Danny Espinosa.
