A day after admittedly "acted like a baby" while pitching the ninth inning of a blowout, 25-4 win over the Mets on Tuesday, Nationals reliever Shawn Kelley was designated for assignment early Wednesday morning.
The move comes as a bit of a surprise, as Kelley has been a key part of the Nationals over the past three seasons and has pitched fairly well this season, posting a 3.34 ERA with 32 strikeouts and five walks in 32 1/2 innings.
The Nationals promoted right-hander Jimmy Cordero to replace Kelley in the bullpen.
