NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The Nationals improved their bullpen on Wednesday by agreeing to terms with right-hander Shawn Kelley, pending a physical, while working on signing right-hander Yusmeiro Petit, according to a baseball source. The club has not yet confirmed.
According to the source, Kelley, who is expected to pitch in the late innings for Washington, will likely take a physical later this week. Kelley had his best year of his career in 2015, playing in 53 games with a 2.45 ERA for the Padres.
If the Nationals sign Petit, who was non-tendered by the Giants recently, he will most likely be a long man out of the bullpen for Washington.
