The Nationals reinstated right-hander Stephen Strasburg from the 10-day disabled list and optioned infielder Adrian Sanchez to Triple-A Syracuse ahead of Strasburg's scheduled start on Wednesday night against the Phillies at Nationals Park.
Strasburg, 30, returns to the Nationals after being placed on the DL on July 26 with a cervical nerve impingement. Also limited by a shoulder injury, Strasburg has gone 6-7 with a 3.90 ERA in 14 starts this season, having recorded 10.65 strikeouts per nine innings (101 K's in 85 1/3 innings) and a 4.81 strikeout-to-walk ratio.
"Credit to Stras that he got himself ready to pitch for us, and got the opportunity to go up against a team we're trying to catch," manager Dave Martinez said.
