GAME IN A NUTSHELL: The Nationals wasted no time jumping all over Phillies right-hander Sean O’Sullivan, getting a 3-run homer from Bryce Harper in the bottom of the first. That’s one way to relax everybody and let them settle in for a nice Friday night at the ballpark, and the Nationals certainly looked relaxed in cruising to their third straight victory.
Staked to that early lead, Max Scherzer went to work and didn’t mess around. The right-hander allowed only one run over eight dominant innings, striking out nine without walking a batter.
