Max Scherzer was scheduled to start in the second of two with the New York Yankees in the nation’s capital on regular rest on Wednesday night after manager Davey Martinez decided to reshuffle the Washington Nationals’ rotation with two scheduled off days on Tuesday and Thursday.
Both the completion of Tuesday night’s suspended game and the finale of the two-game set were postponed due to inclement weather, however, so Scherzer will make his next start on Friday night against Los Angeles in the series opener with the Dodgers.
Scherzer, 33, is coming off a seven-inning start against the Arizona Diamondbacks in Chase Field in which he gave up a run on four hits, striking out 11 of the 25 batters he faced before Martinez lifted him at just 99 pitches overall, though the first-year manager said it did take a little convincing.
