Nationals recall Joe Ross to start vs Mets; Wilmer Difo optioned to Double-A

The Washington Nationals announced this afternoon that Joe Ross was called back up from Triple-A Syracuse to start in tonight's game against the New York Mets. Wilmer Difo was optioned to Double-A to make room on the roster.

In his first exposure above Double-A ball, 22-year-old Washington Nationals' prospect Joe Ross went (2-1) in three starts for the Nats in June posting a 2.66 ERA, a 1.09 FIP, two walks (0.89 BB/9) and 23 walks (10.18 K/9) in 20 u2153 innings, over which he held opposing hitters to a combined .244/.263/.295 line.

When Stephen Strasburg returned from a DL stint, however, Ross was optioned out, but only after making a strong impression on everyone in the nation's capital, including manager Matt Williams.
