Reynaldo Lopez has been called up by the Washington Nationals, manager Dusty Baker announced after Sunday’s 2-1 18-inning loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates.
The 22-year-old right-hander will make his professional debut in Tuesday’s series-opener against the Dodgers. Lucas Giolito will remain at Triple-A Syracuse and reliever Sammy Solis was placed on the 15-day disabled list.
“Giolito needs some work, especially with his breaking ball and his location,” Baker said. “And we’re going to put Sammy Solis on the DL because his knee is cranky right now.”
Giolito, the Nationals’ top prospect, threw four scoreless innings in his big league debut against the New York Mets on June 28, cut short due to a rain delay.
