The biggest camp battle of the spring for the Washington Nationals was the race for the fifth starter job. Mackenzie Gore, Jake Irvin, Michael Soroka, and Trevor Williams seemed locked into the first four spots. The last spot was a race between DJ Herz, Mitchell Parker, and Shinnosuke Ogasawara.
None of them have pitched particularly well. However, Parker has been the best of the bunch so far. Herz and Ogasawara have been pretty brutal so far this spring. Both have ERA’s over 7 and WHIP’s well over 2.
Ogasawara’s stuff just has not looked big league caliber so far.
