Nationals call up Erick Fedde to start against Padres

Right-handed pitcher Erick Fedde, who made his big league debut last season for Washington, was called up from Triple-A Syracuse to start for the Nationals on Wednesday at home against the San Diego Padres.

The game was set to begin at 4:05 p.m. as the last contest of a three-game homestand for Washington. After the game, the Nationals were slated to fly to Miami, where they begin a series against the Marlins on Friday with Max Scherzer (7-1) on the mound.

Fedde, 25, makes his first big-league start this year after going 1-1 with a 4.35 ERA in eight starts for Syracuse.
