The Washington Nationals' two key additions among positions players, Daniel Murphy and Ben Revere, are high-contact, low strikeout hitters who are also left-handed, giving the Nats balance in the lineup and, GM Mike Rizzo hopes, increased offensive efficiency.
Mike Rizzo talked Daniel Murphy up as a high contact, low strikeout hitter during the 30-year-old second baseman's introductory press conference in the nation's capital. Murphy signed a 3-year/$37.5M deal with Washington after a .281/.322/.449, 38 double, 14 home run, 31 walk, 38 K, 2.5 fWAR season in New York in 2015, in his seventh major league campaign with the Mets, who selected him in the 13th Round of the 2006 Draft.
