Mitchell Parker, a sophomore from San Jacinto College in Texas, was selected by the 2019 World Series champion Washington Nationals in the fifth and final round of the 2020 MLB Draft last Thursday.
This afternoon, MLB.com’s Jim Callis is reporting that the 6’4’ lefty has signed for $100,000, well below the slot value for the 153rd overall pick ($346,800).
Parker went (5-0) with a 1.19 ERA, 18 walks, and 64 strikeouts in six starts and 30 1⁄3 IP before the 2020 season ended prematurely amid concerns over the coronavirus pandemic.
