The Los Angeles Angels acquired infielder Brendan Ryan in a trade with the Washington Nationals on Tuesday to help fill the void left by the injury to Andrelton Simmons, who is expected to miss up to two months with a thumb injury.
The Angels acquired Ryan, who was playing at Triple-A Syracuse, for cash considerations, and he was added to the Angels' 25-man roster.
Simmons will require surgery to repair a full thickness tear of the ulnar collateral ligament of his left thumb, the team announced Monday.
