In his first regular season start in the major leagues since September 26, 2015, 38-year-old right-hander Jeremy Guthrie imploded on the mound tonight in Citizens Bank Park.
Guthrie gave up six hits, four walks and nine earned runs (he was later charged with a 10th run) before he was lifted with Washington’s Nationals trailing the Philadelphia Phillies, 9-0 in the bottom of the first.
It was 12-0 by the end of Phillies’ half of the first inning, and they cruised to their first win over the Nationals at home in eight games.
