Impressive Scherzer giving Nats valuable April innings

AP

If there was one minor knock on Max Scherzer upon signing his record-setting contract with the Nationals this winter, it was a reputation for not pitching as deep into games as you might normally expect from a starter who signs a record-setting contract.

Three impressive starts into his career in D.C., Scherzer is bucking that reputation and forging a new identity: workhorse.

With eight dominant innings Friday night in the Nationals’ 7-2 thumping of the Phillies, Scherzer churned out his third straight quality start. And in two of those starts, he has taken the mound for the eighth inning and recorded at least two outs.
