SAN DIEGO -- After he was removed from his most two recent outings despite low pitch counts and without allowing a run, Jeremy Hellickson craved for the opportunity to pitch deeper into games. On Tuesday night at Petco Park, he took it into his own hands as he flirted with history while leading the Nationals to a 4-0 victory over the Padres.
Washington has won nine of its last 10 games.
Hellickson retired the first 18 Padres he faced before Travis Jankowski ripped a single into center field leading off the seventh inning.
