Harper will bat 3rd, start in right field for NL

CINCINNATI — Bryce Harper will bat third and start in right field for the National League in Tuesday night’s All-Star Game, manager Bruce Bochy announced this afternoon.

Harper, enjoying a breakthrough season that to this point would rank among the best in baseball history, was selected to hit in the heart of a stacked NL lineup that also includes former MVP Andrew McCutchen, Reds slugger Todd Frazier (playing this game in Cincinnati), Diamondbacks first baseman Paul Goldschmidt and Giants catcher Buster Posey.

Harper reached the All-Star break hitting .339 with 26 homers, 61 RBI, 63 walks and a league-leading .
