Fedde's spot start shows potential despite loss

WASHINGTON -- The rainouts from last week altered the Nationals' pitching rotation, requiring a spot starter for Wednesday's series finale against the Padres at Nationals Park. So they turned to their top pitching prospect, right-hander Erick Fedde, who endured some weather-related delays before arriving in Washington for his first start of the year.

And Fedde responded with an impressive 2018 debut in which he gave up three runs in 5 2/3 innings with six strikeouts. The Nationals could not muster much support on offense besides a solo home run from Matt Adams in the seventh as they fell to the Padres, 3-1.
