PITTSBURGH -- Brian Goodwin's costly baserunning gaffe remained a conversation piece Thursday before the Nationals wrapped up their three-game series against the Pirates at PNC Park.
Goodwin, a rookie outfielder and former first-round Draft pick, was picked off second base after he doubled home a run to cut the Nats' deficit to 3-1 in the seventh inning against Gerrit Cole and the Pirates on Wednesday. That would be Washington's only run in an eventual 6-1 loss.
"You don't get him on the ropes that often," manager Dusty Baker said of Cole, who is having an outstanding season.
