After relying on the Atlanta Braves to beat the New York Mets and lower the magic number to win the NL East on Monday and Tuesday, the Washington Nationals took Wednesday’s series finale with the Miami Marlins to help themselves. With a win in Miami and the Braves’ win in Citi Field, that number was done to two.
Dusty Baker told reporters he’d rather do things the easy way and win though he’d take whatever help he could get.
“Whether they lose or we win, you’d rather win, but it doesn’t matter, as long as you cross the finish line first,” Baker said.
