Though he did it with what he said was a “heavy heart”, Chris Speier filled in on the bench for Washington Nationals’ manager Dusty Baker last week when the veteran skipper was away from the team due to a death in the family.
Speier also provided a glimpse into their relationship. He talked to reporters about his motivation in returning to the majors after two-plus years away.
“It was hard being out and it’s been kind of a rejuvenation for me to get back into this,” Speier explained.
