WASHINGTON -- Stephen Drew left before the start of the sixth inning of Tuesday's game against the Cardinals, after suffering an apparent leg injury. Drew grabbed at the back of his right leg while running to first base after tapping a grounder back to the pitcher to end the fifth inning and never made it back on the field.
A crucial part of the Nationals' bench, Drew was starting in place of third baseman Anthony Rendon, who manager Dusty Baker wanted to rest after a slow start to the season. But Rendon replaced Drew at third base after the injury.
