CHICAGO -- With two closers on the disabled list, Washington has turned to Ryan Madson. Trying to secure a victory on Sunday night, Madson served up a walk-off grand slam in the ninth inning to David Bote, and the Nationals suffered a crushing 4-3 loss to the Cubs that erased a dominant performance from Max Scherzer.
The loss keeps the Nats 5 1/2 games behind the National League East co-leading Phillies and Braves.

It had been more than a month since the Nationals lost a game with Scherzer on the mound, a stretch of brilliance that was on full display at Wrigley Field.
