The St. Louis Cardinals scored a record 10 runs in the top of the first inning Wednesday in Game 5 of the National League Division Series against the host Atlanta Braves.
The 10 runs were the most scored in the first inning in the history of Major League baseball postseason. The Cardinals had five hits, four walks, one sacrifice and Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman made an error to help open the flood gates against starting pitcher Mike Foltynewicz, who was replaced after he gave up six earned runs while recording just one out.
The winner of the game will meet the survivor of the Washington-Los Angeles series, who play a Game 5 later on Wednesday.
