GAME IN A NUTSHELL: Rarely do things turn out well when your starter puts you in a 5-0 hole after three innings. But somehow the Nationals managed to overcome Doug Fister’s rare early struggles and storm all the way back with a 5-run bottom of the third.
Yunel Escobar once again provided the biggest hit, lacing a bases-loaded double into the left-field corner to tie the game and complete the dramatic rally. But then things settled down, and the score remained 5-5 through much of the evening.
Finally, the Cardinals broke through in the eighth, getting an RBI double from Kolten Wong (who was a major pest all night) off Blake Treinen, who has now been scored upon in each of his last four relief appearances.
