D.C. mayor Muriel Bowser took the stage Saturday and congratulated the Washington Nationals on winning their first-ever World Series. But she didn’t wait long into her speech to start a chant that caused the thousands watching along Constitution Avenue to join in.
“I think we should do it again next year,” Bowser said. “What do you think? Let’s bring it back-to-back! Back-to-back!”
Bowser stepped to the side and let the chants carry for another few seconds. The Nationals enjoyed the cheer, one of many throughout the team’s victory rally on Constitution Avenue.
When it was his turn to speak, manager Dave Martinez also addressed the chant.
