Arroyo reportedly to return after MRI misread

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- A second opinion could provide new hope to Bronson Arroyo's comeback attempt with the Nationals.

According to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports, Arroyo's doctor misread the initial MRI that Arroyo believed to have revealed a torn rotator cuff. Instead, Arroyo has been diagnosed with bursa sac inflammation and will be sidelined for a week to 10 days.

The Nationals, who have not confirmed the report, said Thursday they were waiting to compare the MRI Arroyo had in 2014 to the one taken Wednesday to assess the actual damage. Arroyo, who had been competing to earn a spot in the Nationals' rotation as a non-roster invite, had his rotator cuff repaired at the same time he had Tommy John surgery in 2014.
