Anibal Sanchez recorded only four outs in his start Thursday afternoon before something went wrong.
Sanchez left the Washington Nationals’ series finale against the New York Mets after apparently suffering an injury on the mound.
Sanchez grimaced in pain after walking Brandon Nimmo. Team trainers and manager Dave Martinez ran out to the mound to check on Sanchez, and he handed over the ball and left the game.
Erick Fedde replaced Sanchez for Washington. Sanchez finished with 1u2153 innings, two strikeouts, one hit and no runs allowed.
The Nationals have been beset by injuries throughout the first quarter of the 2019 season, most of them coming to positional players — including Trea Turner and Ryan Zimmerman, who are still on the injured list, and Anthony Rendon and Juan Soto, who have since returned to the lineup.
