World Cup star Ali Krieger went from the soccer pitch to throwing a pitch Thursday afternoon at Nationals Park.
Krieger threw a ceremonial first pitch strike from the rubber to Nationals catcher Yan Gomes, who was not in the starting lineup for the late afternoon series finale against the Colorado Rockies.
Krieger met Nationals manager Dave Martinez and some of his players before the game.
“It’s awesome. I am a big fan,” said Martinez, whose team watched the U.S. women’s soccer games from France on television in the clubhouse.
Krieger grew up in Northern Virginia, went to Hylton High School in Prince William County and played in college at Penn State.
