The Washington Nationals shopped shortstop Ian Desmond at the 2014 MLB winter meetings, but couldn't find a suitable trade package in return for the 29-year-old middle infielder.
According to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports, the Seattle Mariners may have provided the best option with a potential trade of their young infielder, Brad Miller:
Sources: #Nationals have discussed Desmond with #Mariners on multiple occasions. Nats like Miller. Talks have yet to gain traction.

However, the Nats appear to want one of Seattle's cache of top-tier pitching prospects included in a potential deal, which might end up putting a permanent halt to talks.
Per Patrick Reddington of SB Nation, while they have talked, "according to multiple reports, Tacoma News Tribune writer Bob Sutton reported on Thursday night that Seattle, "... appear(s) cool, at this point, to Washington’s efforts to trade shortstop Ian Desmond."
Things could trade at the drop of a hat, but don't be surprised if the Nats move forward with Desmond on the roster in 2015 or search out another trade partner.
