Funny how the words look now, nearly 60 years later.
But there they are, displayed prominently atop the Sports page in the second sentence of Georg N. Meyers’ column from Monday, Sept. 15, 1958: The Huskies, The Seattle Times sports editor wrote, “have been afflicted with quarterback anemia.”
For modern-day Husky fans, the words present a paradox. When one considers the successful lineage of quarterbacks to come through the University of Washington, well, “anemia” doesn’t fit. But then, oh, how those words must resonate with present-day Husky fans.
