After avoiding naming his starting quarterback for almost all of fall camp, Washington State coach Mike Leach relented Wednesday, telling 950 KJR radio that third-year sophomore “Luke Falk, for Week 1, probably puts our best foot forward.”
Falk has been locked, in Leach’s words, in a “ridiculously competitive” battle for the starting job with second-year freshman Peyton Bender.
But Falk has gotten a majority of the reps during fall camp and played last year when quarterback Connor Halliday sustained a broken leg against USC late in the season.
