The Washington softball team earned one of 32 at-large bids to the NCAA tournament and will open play Friday against South Carolina Upstate at the Tuscaloosa Regional hosted by No. 6 overall seed Alabama.
Washington (40-15) plays USC Upstate (43-8) at 10:30 a.m.
Alabama (42-12) will take on Fairfield (25-22) in the other opening-round game of the regional.
“It’s exciting because this group had to work really hard to get an opportunity to do this,” Washington coach Heather Tarr said. “If a few things would have gone a little differently in conference, we would have been pretty close to being in a hosting situation, but we know how precious this opportunity is and our job is to make the most of it.
