Washington has opted out of the last two meetings with Gonzaga, Jim Meehan of The Spokesman-Review reported Friday. The decision comes after an offseason of significant change as the Huskies prepare for life in the Big Ten with first-year head coach Danny Sprinkle leading the way.
The rekindling of the in-state rivalry has not been kind to Washington. Last season’s 78-73 victory on Montlake snapped a seven-game skid to Gonzaga, which had won 14 of the last 15 entering the meeting.
Though it has been lopsided in favor of the Zags, Washington facing Gonzaga has been an appealing duel given the dynamic of the two programs.
