Washington swept all four of its heats in Friday’s first day of competition at the national men’s rowing championships, as the Huskies go for a sixth consecutive college title.
UW’s varsity eight, varsity four, second varsity eight and third varsity eight each advanced to Saturday’s semifinals at the Intercollegiate Rowing Association championship regatta at Mercer Lake in West Windsor, N.J. By winning their heats, the Huskies did not have to row in Friday afternoon’s repechage races.
The Dawgs, who entered the weekend ranked No. 4 in the country and are coming off a loss to arch-rival California at the Pac-12 Championships, are defending their unprecedented five straight national titles.
