After lackluster wins and disappointing losses, Lorenzo Romar has preached that the Huskies defense, which ranked 333rd nationally in points allowed, was improving.
During the first 20 minutes of Tuesday’s game against Cal Poly, it seemed as if his assertions were simply happy talk while the Mustangs torched the Washington men’s basketball team with nine three-pointers to take a one-point lead at the break.
But the Huskies switched to a four-guard lineup that stymied Cal Poly’s shooters, propelling Washington to a 77-61 nonconference win in front of 7,175 at Alaska Airlines Arena.
David Crisp finished with 21 points, leading four Huskies in double-digit scoring.
