College athletics may be about to change.
That’s thanks in part to California Gov. Gavin Newsom, who signed California Senate Bill 206 — more commonly known as The Fair Pay to Play Act — into law on Monday. Beginning in 2023, the law states that it’ll be illegal in California for universities to prohibit their student-athletes from profiting off their name and likeness. Autographs, endorsement deals, jersey sales — it’ll all be in play.
