Bob Rondeau, the voice of the Washington Huskies for the last four decades, was presented with the Chris Schenkel Award Tuesday night during the National Football Foundation’s College Football Hall of Fame induction ceremony at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York.
The award recognizes individuals who have had distinguished careers broadcasting college football with direct ties to a specific university.
Rondeau began broadcasting Husky games as an analyst in 1978 alongside play-by-play announcer Bruce King. Two years later, Rondeau took over as the play-by-play voice. He started calling UW men’s basketball games in 1985.
Rondeau is the fourth Schenkel Award recipient with ties to the Pac-12 Conference, joining Bob Robertson (Washington State, 2004), Larry Zimmer (Colorado, 2009) and Joe Starkey (California, 2010).
